The sanctuary of Torreciudad is a Catholic temple dedicated to the Virgin Mary which is located about 24 kilometers of Barbastro (Huesca Spain) next to the hermitage thet originated the devotion of our lady of Torreciudad in the XI century. San Jose Maria Escrivá de Balaguer started its construction also founder of Opus Dei, and opened its doors in 1975. Inside the 30 foot altar sculpture by Joan Mayne outstands, on the side one can admire and revere the medallion of the virgin and the chapel that houses a figure of Christ made of bronze.
Once inside, one can access the crypt and the gallerie that holds wonderful paintings and ornaments brought by pilgrims from around the world, In the crypt the tiles represent the five painful mysteries of Rosario and the chapel of Loreto,the path leading to the hermitage is decorated by images of the joys and sorrows of San Jose. This being one of the most important centers of attractions in Aragon, hosting several pilgrimages, organ concerts, immigrant journeys, .and other cultural and religious activities, besides it promotes the Mariana route that links the sanctuaries of Lourdes, Montserrat, Torreciudad, and Pilar de Zaragoza.
