In the region of La Ribagorza there is a change in altitude of nearly 3,000 meters between lowland or Estopiñán Graus and the peaks of the Benasque Valley. Heights and slopes of these mountains are a refuge for the highlight of flora and fauna the Pyrenees. Keep in mind that the Pyrenean barrier serves as a refuge for many species of plants and animals missing further south of the continent, many of which have evolved independently giving rise to endemic species.
